The workshop

Learn it by building it.

A full-day coding workshop for developers who want to move beyond chatbot demos. You will build a complete retrieval flow, inspect its failure modes and add the evaluation habits needed for real product work.

You leave with

A working RAG application and a practical checklist for taking it further.

What you will take away

  • Chunking and retrieval choices you can explain
  • Grounded answers with citations
  • A small repeatable evaluation set
  • Patterns for observability, safety and cost

A practical agenda

How the session flows.

1. 09:30

Understand the system

Map the moving parts and choose a useful, testable problem.

2. 10:30

Build the retrieval flow

Ingest, chunk, embed and retrieve from a realistic document set.

3. 13:00

Make answers dependable

Add prompting, citations, fallbacks and structured output.

4. 15:00

Evaluate and improve

Create a test set, diagnose failures and make evidence-led changes.

Who it is for

Backend, full-stack and AI-curious developers

The workshop is deliberately small so questions and direct feedback are part of the day.

What you need

  • Comfortable building APIs in JavaScript, TypeScript, Java or Python
  • A laptop with a current development environment
  • An LLM API key; setup guidance is sent beforehand
